An editorial illustration for an article by Claire Roussel on ICON France exploring the role of men in supporting women through peer-to-peer accountability. The piece emphasizes that true allyship isn't just a label, but the consistency to confront friends and challenge ingrained biases within their own circles.
The artwork focuses on the internal dynamics of male relationships as a catalyst for social change. It moves away from passive support, visualizing the moment of confrontation not as a conflict, but as a necessary act of responsibility.
I proposed two creative approaches designed to resonate with the author's narrative.
Both concepts aim to visualize "active allyship" moving from passive silence to direct intervention. The first concept puts more emphasis on man's accountability, the second one represents the process of unlearning patriarchal biases.
While the client preferred the visual language of the first option, they requested symbols that were more direct and accessible for the magazine's audience. This led to an intermediate proposal before reaching the final concept.
